This is a world shaped by unruly magic, old prophecies, and the stubborn habits of mortals who keep rebuilding anyway.
Tephys counts its long past in Old Age (OA) and its current civilised era in New Age (NA), marked from the moment Melmond guided the peoples of Euraph into a shared tongue and a shared faith. That unity did not last. The Secession (490 NA) shattered Euraph into wandering nations, rival churches, and the first “saviour” rumours.
Then came the Blood Age (813 NA), when magic broke loose and portals tore open across the world. Archfiends led hostile hordes from other planes, until new gods rose, Gifts awakened among mortals, and even the elemental dragons stirred. In 1033 NA, cataclysm and spell‑storm split Euraph into the continents you know today. The survivors learned an ugly lesson: in Tephys, “from another land” is not the same as “from another plane”.
Magic remains mighty and perilous. Minor workings are common among trained mages, but the great Arcanes demand lifelong focus. Healing is not “learned” at all: it is a rare birth‑gift, prized by nobles and feared by cynics. One boundary has never been crossed—there is no resurrection.
